48-Year-Old Legal Dispute: Court Rules in Favor of Temple at Durgadi Fort, Mosque Claim Rejected

Kalyan (MR), December 11: A court in Kalyan, Maharashtra, has rejected the claim by the Muslim side that there is a mosque inside the Durgadi Fort. The local sessions court delivered its verdict on this 48-year-old case, dismissing the petition that claimed the presence of a mosque within the fort. However, the court acknowledged the existence of a temple inside the fort and ruled that the fort would remain under government control.

As soon as the verdict was announced, members of Hindu organizations gathered at Durgadi Fort and raised slogans in celebration. According to media reports, the court accepted the Hindu side’s claim that there is a temple in the fort and dismissed the Muslim side’s petition regarding a mosque and Eidgah in the same location. Sessions Judge A.S. Lanjewar stated that the fort will stay under government authority.

It is noteworthy that the legal battle over the claim of a mosque and Eidgah inside Durgadi Fort has been ongoing since 1976. The Majlis Mushawarat Majid Trust had filed a petition in court asserting that there was a mosque and Eidgah within the fort.
