Details of Telangana’s Caste Survey Released: What is the Muslim Population?

Hyderabad, 2 February – The details of the caste-based census in Telangana have been revealed. A comprehensive family survey and caste-based census were conducted in the state. The report on this census was presented to the Cabinet Subcommittee by Sandeep Sultania, Principal Secretary of the Planning Department. After a discussion in the meeting, Minister A. Revanth Reddy shared the details with the media.
The Minister stated that the main goal is to ensure justice for the backward classes and mentioned that the caste and social survey in the state was conducted as per Rahul Gandhi’s wish.
Key details from the survey include that it was started to collect necessary data for the betterment of weaker sections. According to the survey, 96.9% of the state’s population, or 3.54 crore people, participated and provided their details. The survey was completed in 50 days, and the report will be presented in the Assembly soon.
It was also noted that 3.1% of the population, or 1.6 million people, did not provide their details for various reasons. The total population of the state is 3.70 crore. The report will be presented to the state cabinet on the 4th of this month, followed by a discussion in the Assembly.

- Details of 35,477,554 people from the state were recorded in the survey.
- A total of 11,215,131 households were included in the survey.

- 17.43% of the population is Scheduled Caste (SC) – 6,184,319 people.
- 10.45% of the population is Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 3,705,929 people.
- 46.25% of the population belongs to Backward Classes (BC) – 16,409,179 people.
- 10.08% of the Muslim population is from BC – 3,576,588 people.
- 2.48% of the Muslim population belongs to the Other Castes (OC) – 880,424 people.
- The total Muslim population in the state is 12.56%.
- The total OC population in the state is 15.79%.
