America has started sending back Indians

New Delhi, 4 February – (DeccanLive.com): The United States has started sending back Indian nationals who were deemed illegal immigrants. This includes people who have been living in the U.S. without proper documentation. After Donald Trump became president, the U.S. began deporting illegal Indian immigrants by air for the first time. The issue of illegal immigration was also raised during talks between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Reports suggest that the Trump administration is using military support to advance its immigration agenda. This includes sending troops to the Mexican border, using military planes for deportation, and setting up military bases to house deportees. On Monday, a U.S. official confirmed that a C-17 military aircraft had departed with deported immigrants, including Indians, heading back to India.
These deportation flights are also taking immigrants back to countries like Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras. This is the first time since Trump took office that Indians have been deported from the U.S. During discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also addressed the issue of illegal Indian immigration to the U.S. Trump had stated that India would handle the situation appropriately.
Jaishankar mentioned that many of these individuals were involved in illegal activities, which India does not want. He stated that if any of the immigrants are indeed Indian citizens, India is ready to facilitate their legal return. According to a report in Hindustan Times, between October 2023 and September 2024, the U.S. sent back over 1,100 illegal Indian immigrants.
