Millions of People Attended the Funeral Prayers of Hezbollah’s Martyred Leaders

Beirut, 23 February – (PIC): A massive funeral was held in Beirut for Hezbollah’s martyred Secretary-General Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, former leader Hashim Safi al-Din, and other slain leaders. Millions of people participated in the funeral prayers, showing their support for the Lebanese resistance movement.

The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon at Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium in Beirut. Security arrangements were at their highest level to ensure the safety of the attendees.

Nearly five months after their assassination in Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, the large-scale participation in the funeral of the two former Hezbollah leaders was seen as a referendum in support of Palestinian and Lebanese resistance.

The body of Hassan Nasrallah was transported in a vehicle to the funeral site, where millions of mourners gathered for a final farewell. Later, he was laid to rest in southern Beirut.

Following the martyrdom of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah on September 27, his body was initially moved to a secret location. After his funeral prayer, the funeral of his successor, Hashim Safi al-Din, was also held. His body was then transported to his hometown, Deir Qanoun al-Nahr, where he will be buried tomorrow.

Israeli warplanes attempted to intimidate mourners by flying at low altitudes, breaking the sound barrier, and conducting mock attacks. However, despite these threats, millions of people attended the funeral to pay their respects.

Speaking at the event, Hezbollah’s current Secretary-General, Naeem Qassem, said, “Today, we bid farewell to an extraordinary Arab and Islamic leader. He sacrificed his life for the liberation of the beloved Palestinian people and Jerusalem, shedding his blood in the fight against the enemy.”

Hezbollah Secretary-General Naeem Qassem praised the sacrifices of the martyred leader Hassan Nasrallah, stating that he insisted on staying in the operation room with the fighters until his martyrdom. He emphasized that Nasrallah dedicated his life to keeping the Palestinian cause alive.

Qassem also highlighted the contributions of martyr Hashim Safi al-Din, who worked in various fields serving the people and supporting the resistance fighters. Since the founding of Hezbollah, he held multiple responsibilities, from leading the Beirut region to serving in the Executive Council and later in the General Secretariat.

He further stated that the Zionist enemy attacked Lebanon because it could not tolerate Palestinian resistance. Paying tribute to the martyrs, he declared that the Palestinian people would continue their struggle until the last drop of blood, and Hezbollah would always stand with them. “Our martyrs’ blood will not be in vain,” he affirmed.
