Telangana Government to Distribute QR-Enabled Ration Cards from Ugadi 2025

Hyderabad, 5 March (www.deccanlive.com): The Telangana government has announced that it will start distributing new QR-enabled ration cards from March 30, 2025, which coincides with the Telugu New Year, Ugadi. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has finalized the design of the cards, aiming to bring more transparency to the Public Distribution System (PDS).

Key Features of the New Ration Cards
The new ration cards will be the size of an ATM card and will have a light-blue color. They will include a QR code for quick verification. One side of the card will feature a photo of CM Revanth Reddy, while the other side will have an image of Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. The QR code will store all the beneficiary’s details, helping to reduce fraud and improve the tracking of subsidized items like rice, wheat, and LPG.

Who Will Benefit?
The government will first distribute the cards to 13 lakh new applicants. After that, 24 lakh pending applications for updates to family details or addresses will be processed. The distribution will begin in districts like Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Mahabubnagar, with plans to cover the entire state by mid-April.

How to Apply
Eligible residents (permanent Telangana citizens from economically weaker sections) can apply for the new ration cards in two ways:

  1. Online: Through the Mee Seva portal (https://meeseva.telangana.gov.in) with a fee of ₹50.
  2. Offline: At designated Mee Seva centers or ration shops.

Required documents include an Aadhaar card, proof of residence, and bank account details. Applications will remain open indefinitely, but officials advise applying early to avoid last-minute delays.

Why the Delay?
The distribution was originally planned for March 1 but was postponed due to technical upgrades and the Model Code of Conduct during the MLC elections in districts like Nalgonda and Warangal. After the elections, the government worked on improving the system to ensure a smooth rollout starting from Ugadi.

How to Track Your Application
Applicants can check the status of their ration card application by:

  • Visiting the Telangana Civil Supplies Portal.
  • Entering their application ID, Meeseva number, or Aadhaar details.
  • Reviewing real-time updates.

What the CM Says
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated, “This initiative balances electoral compliance and urgent food security needs. Our QR-enabled cards will revolutionize PDS transparency and accessibility.”

What’s Next?
Residents in districts like Khammam and Karimnagar can expect updates after March 8. The government advises everyone to verify their eligibility online and keep an eye on official portals for further announcements.
