Nationwide Protests Against Waqf Amendment Bill: Muslim Personal Law Board

New Delhi, 3 April – (www.deccanlive.com): The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), the largest representative body of Muslims in India, announced today that it will challenge the Waqf Amendment Bill in court. The board also stated that it will take the fight against this “black law” to the streets. According to the board, this law is a threat to the rights of the Muslim community.
The Waqf Bill was presented in the Lok Sabha today for discussion and approval. After passing in the Lower House (Lok Sabha), it will move to the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) for further approval.
During a press conference, board member Mohammad Adeeb criticized the proposed law, claiming that it is an attempt to seize Muslim community properties. He said, “Do not think that we have lost. The bill was opposed in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). This is just the beginning. This is a fight to save the country because this law is a threat to the nation’s unity.”
He urged all responsible and aware citizens to oppose the bill. Reaffirming the board’s commitment, he stated that the board will fight against this law both legally and through public protests.
Mohammad Adeeb declared, “We will go to court. We will not sit quietly until this law is withdrawn.”
The board’s Vice President, Mohammad Ali Mohsin, also strongly rejected the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025, saying that Muslim organizations completely oppose it.
“This Bill is Discriminatory”: Muslim Personal Law Board
The board called this bill discriminatory and communal, saying that it clearly violates the constitutional rights of Muslim citizens. They stated, “We have started this fight to protect our country. Our goal is to end this black law.”
The board members announced that they would organize nationwide protests similar to the farmers’ protests. They said, “We will hold programs across the country like the farmers did. If needed, we will block roads and use all peaceful methods to oppose this bill.”
In a press release after the press conference, the board urged all secular and non-communal political parties as well as conscientious Members of Parliament (MPs) to reject this divisive bill. They appealed to MPs not to walk out but to debate and demand voting in both Houses of Parliament.
The board also called on the citizens of the country to come out on the streets and participate in peaceful and democratic protests.
