CM Revanth Reddy Criticizes Delimitation: Telangana Gets Only 42 Paise, Bihar Gets ₹6.06

Chennai, 22 March – (www.deccanlive.com): Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has strongly opposed the central government’s proposed delimitation, arguing that it would be unfair to southern states. Speaking at an all-party meeting organized by DMK in Chennai, he criticized the uneven distribution of tax revenues between states.
Revanth Reddy pointed out that Telangana contributes significantly to the central government through taxes but receives only 42 paise for every rupee contributed. In comparison, Bihar gets ₹6.06, Uttar Pradesh ₹2.03, and Madhya Pradesh ₹1.73 per rupee. He highlighted that Tamil Nadu gets only 26 paise, Karnataka 16 paise, and Kerala 49 paise, showcasing the financial disparity.
He argued that political limitations should not hinder economically progressing states and warned that the proposed delimitation would create political imbalance among states. He urged Prime Minister Modi to follow the 1976 model, where delimitation was done without increasing Lok Sabha seats.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that southern states would not accept a population-based delimitation as it would weaken their political influence. He stated that this move could reduce the voice of the South and make them secondary citizens under North India’s dominance. The meeting concluded with a firm stance against accepting population-based delimitation.
