Man Killed by Mob After Objecting to Holi Colors Thrown at Him Near Mosque in Uttar Pradesh

Unnao, 17 March – (www.deccanlive.com): An unfortunate incident occurred in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, where a 48-year-old man was attacked and killed after a dispute over throwing Holi colors. This incident has created tension in the area, leading to the deployment of heavy police forces, including Rapid Response Teams from several police stations.

Details of the Incident
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Sharif, lived near Qasim Nagar Rabana Mosque in the Sadar area. He had been working as a driver in Saudi Arabia and had returned home two months ago.

On Saturday, while Sharif was walking from his home in Mahla Kunji to the mosque, he came across a group of people playing Holi near Mahla Kashif Ali Sarai Chungi Power House.

When the group threw colors at him, Sharif protested. However, the group threw colors on him again, which led to a verbal argument. The situation quickly escalated into a physical fight.

Eventually, some people helped Sharif, made him sit on a platform, and gave him water. But shortly after that, he lost consciousness and died.

Aftermath of the Incident
After Sharif’s death, the young men involved in the fight ran away from the scene.
Local residents, angered by the incident, gathered at the spot and near Sharif’s house, demanding action against the culprits.

Police officers from Sadar Kotwali, Achal Ganj, Dehi, and Mahla police stations were deployed to the area to control the situation.
Protesters took to the streets, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack.

Police Response
Although a senior police officer named Singh spoke to the angry crowd to calm them down, the tension in the area remained high.

Singh confirmed that:

  • A case would be registered based on the complaints.
  • Efforts were being made to identify and arrest the accused.

This tragic incident has left the local community in shock and fear. The police investigation is ongoing, and the authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
