Telangana Weather Update: Cold Wave Grips State, IMD Issues Orange Alert for Several Districts

Telangana is shivering under a severe cold wave as temperatures continue to drop across many parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow alerts for several districts, warning that the cold is likely to intensify over the next few days.
According to IMD forecasts, minimum temperatures could range between 8.5°C and 12.5°C in the coming days. Districts including Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Adilabad, and Asifabad are under an Orange Alert, where temperatures may fall below 10°C. The remaining districts are on a Yellow Alert.
The coldest temperature so far has been recorded at 10.2°C in Sirpur (U), Kumram Bheem Asifabad district on Tuesday night. Northern Telangana, especially the Adilabad region, is witnessing biting cold conditions, with people lighting fires at night to keep warm.
Health Concerns on the Rise
Doctors warn that the sudden drop in temperature is leading to an increase in respiratory and viral infections. Prolonged exposure to cold weather can cause hypothermia (a sharp drop in body temperature) and frostbite (freezing of skin tissues).
Medical experts said that due to lower immunity in cold conditions, viruses spread more easily, resulting in more cases of cold, cough, fever, and pneumonia. Hospitals have already started seeing a rise in patients with respiratory problems. Those with asthma or chronic lung diseases (COPD) may experience worsened symptoms. Dry and cracked skin problems are also becoming common.
Doctors Advise Caution
Health experts have urged children, the elderly, pregnant women, new mothers, and outdoor workers to take extra precautions. People are advised to wear warm clothing, drink warm water, and use gloves and socks to protect themselves from the cold.
Asthma patients should keep their inhalers handy and wear masks when stepping out.
Experts also reminded that Telangana was already declared a “core cold wave zone” by the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCCH) last year. They emphasized that the same conditions are repeating this season, making it essential for citizens to stay cautious and safe.
