BRICS Summit Demands Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza to Protect Palestinians
Rio de Janeiro, 7 July – (www.deccanlive.com): On Sunday, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the leaders of BRICS countries held a summit and again showed deep concern over the ongoing genocide in Gaza. They demanded an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire to stop the bloody war that has been destroying Palestinian lives for the past 22 months.
In their joint statement, the BRICS leaders said that all sides must join peace talks sincerely, so a lasting and unconditional ceasefire can be achieved. They also asked for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Lula da Silva’s Strong Message
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke strongly at the summit. He said that the world can no longer stay silent while Israel continues its genocide in Gaza.
In his speech, he said:
“Some actions of Hamas are not right, but that does not mean we stay silent while Israel kills women and children, attacks innocent people, and uses hunger as a weapon.”
President Lula da Silva has spoken out many times before. In February 2024, he said during an event in Rio de Janeiro:
“This is not a war, it is a clear genocide because Israel is targeting women and children.”
He even compared Israeli actions to the Jewish Holocaust, which caused a diplomatic issue with Israel. But Lula stood firm and did not change his opinion.
The Situation in Gaza
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with full support from the USA, has been attacking Gaza with extreme cruelty. These attacks include:
- Mass killings
- Starvation
- Widespread destruction
- Forcing millions of people to flee their homes
All this is happening even though the International Court and many global leaders have called for peace.
So far in this war, more than 193,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured, most of them women and children. Over 10,000 people are still missing.
Millions have lost their homes, and famine has killed many, including children.
