Fire on IndiGo Flight Before Takeoff at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad, 23 July – (www.deccanlive.com): An IndiGo ATR-76 flight from Ahmedabad to Diu caught fire in its engine just before take-off on Wednesday.
There were 60 passengers on board. As the plane was preparing for take-off on the runway, the pilot sent a ‘Mayday’ emergency call to Air Traffic Control (ATC), and the flight was stopped immediately.
The incident happened around 11 a.m., and all passengers were safely evacuated. An investigation into the incident is underway.
This comes just a day after an Air India flight (AI-315) from Hong Kong caught fire in its auxiliary power unit (APU) shortly after landing at Delhi Airport.
The APU is located in the tail section of the aircraft, and a fire there can damage the plane’s body.
What is Mayday?
The term ‘Mayday’ comes from the French word ‘m’aider’, which means ‘help me’. It is used by pilots over radio communication to request immediate assistance and priority in emergencies.
