Gaza’s Children Are Dying from Hunger – War Means Hunger and Destruction: UN Agency UNRWA

Gaza, 9 July – (www.deccanlive.com): The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has shared a heartbreaking truth: children in Gaza are suffering terribly due to war, hunger, and destruction. They are growing up in a world filled with pain and fear — a reality too painful to even imagine.

Half of Gaza’s Population Are Children

Gaza’s population is around 2.4 million, and about half of them are children. These innocent children, who haven’t even experienced the joys of childhood, are surrounded by rubble, bombs, hunger, and thirst. Their lives have been destroyed by war.

No Education, No Safety, No Basic Needs

UNRWA says nearly one million children in Gaza are now without access to:

  • Education
  • Safety
  • Basic needs like food and clean water

Many schools have been destroyed. Some are now being used as shelters by families who lost their homes. Constant bombings and forced displacement have pushed children far from classrooms and peace.

Call for Immediate Ceasefire

UNRWA is calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. It warns that if the world continues to ignore these suffering children, the entire region will face a dark and dangerous future.

Women and Children Suffer the Most

According to human rights groups, children and women are suffering the most in this brutal war. They lack even the basic necessities of life.

Education Lost for Second Year in a Row

For two years, Gaza’s children have not been able to go to school. Israeli attacks have destroyed hundreds of schools. The few schools that remain are being used as temporary shelters for displaced families.

Hunger and Disease Killing Children

The suffering doesn’t end with bombs. Israel has blocked food, water, and medicine from entering Gaza. This is causing starvation and severe health problems, especially among children.

According to the World Health Organization, by early 2025, an average of 112 Palestinian children every day are being taken to hospitals due to severe malnutrition. This shows that Israel’s actions are pushing Gaza toward famine and mass starvation.

Aid Blocked at the Border

Since March 2, Israel has closed Gaza’s border, stopping hundreds of aid trucks. Only a few are allowed to pass. The UN says 500 trucks are needed daily, but only about 50 were being let in by the end of 2024 — which was far from enough.

Ongoing Genocide Since October 7, 2023

Since October 7, 2023, with support from the United States, Israel has been carrying out what is described as a brutal campaign of genocide in Gaza. Bombings, killings, destruction of homes, hospitals, and places of worship are daily occurrences.

The Cost of This War

So far, more than 194,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured, most of them women and children. Over 11,000 people are still missing, and millions are homeless. Famine has already taken the lives of many innocent children.

If the world stays silent, the future will not forgive this cruelty.
