In total, 9 people, including peddlers and transporters, were caught. Police seized 300 grams of cocaine, 100 grams of mephedrone (MD drug), and one pistol.

First Gang: Cocaine Supply from Mumbai

  • The first gang has direct links to Maharashtra.
  • Earlier, two men – Ravi Verma and Sachin – were arrested in a drug case.
  • During questioning, a new name came up: Prem Upadhyay, a drug peddler.
  • Prem started using drugs in 2022 and has two past cases in Nallakunta and Serilingampally.
  • He connected with Mujahid, a Mumbai-based drug dealer, who buys drugs from Nigerians and brings cocaine via sea route.
  • Mujahid recruited two poor electricians as sub-peddlers – Chaitanya and Khan – who help supply drugs in Hyderabad.
  • Prem bought drugs from them and sold them.
  • From Prem, police seized 276 grams of cocaine, worth around ₹69 lakhs.

Second Gang: Mephedrone (MD) Drug Supply

  • Main people: Pawan Bhati and Hem Singh
  • Police also arrested Jitender, originally from Rajasthan, now living in Kattedan.
  • Jitender used to run a sweet shop but had losses and got into drug dealing with Pawan in 2022.
  • They bought drugs from Surender and Hanuman (also from Rajasthan).
  • Thinking the business was risky, they bought a country-made gun for ₹75,000 and even tested it by firing one round.
  • Police caught the entire gang.

Third Gang: Software Engineer Turned Drug Peddler

  • This gang was caught in Bollaram PS limits.
  • Harsha, a B.Tech graduate and software engineer, started using drugs after a breakup.
  • He met a Goa-based peddler named Chris and first became a user, then a peddler.
  • From him, police seized 10 grams of cocaine and ecstasy pills.
  • During questioning, two Nigerian nationals were found to be involved.
  • These Nigerians were staying illegally after their visas expired.
  • One of them, Clement, was earlier arrested in a cheating case in Chandigarh.
  • He moved across four cities and often escaped after jail release.
  • Though NBWs (non-bailable warrants) were issued, they are hard to catch.
  • Now, police are planning to deport them back to Nigeria.

Challenges in Deporting Foreign Drug Offenders

  • Deporting foreign nationals is a very hard and lengthy process.
  • Police need to:
  1. Get an Emergency Travel Certificate
  2. Get FRRO Exit Permission
  3. Book air tickets
  4. Take care of them till they leave

So far, 33 foreign nationals were arrested in the last 3 years, and 19 have been deported.
