Hyderabad: Senior Officer Iqbal Siddiqui Appointed as Additional DCP for West and South-West Zones

Hyderabad, 14 July – (www.deccanlive.com): Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand has made another important administrative decision by restructuring the city’s critical Task Force department. As part of the reshuffle, senior police officer Mohammed Iqbal Siddiqui has been appointed as the new Additional DCP in charge of the West and South-West zones. This decision was officially announced on Sunday.

Previously, the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate had only four zones, but the number later increased to five. Each zone operates with its own dedicated Task Force team, which is led by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) or an officer at the Additional SP level. To assist the DCP, an Additional DCP is also assigned. This system was retained even after the number of zones expanded.

To reduce the workload on DCPs, the administration had earlier decided to assign DCPs to the West, North, and Central zones, and Additional DCPs to the East and South zones. The DCP’s main office remained in Secunderabad, while the Additional DCP operated out of the historic Purani Haveli in the Old City. Over time, as the city formed the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), the number of zones increased to seven.

Initially, the South-East and H-NEW units operated under a single DCP. Later, the same DCP was given charge of H-NEW, along with West, South-West, North, and Central zones. Due to operational and technical requirements, the South-West zone was reassigned to an Additional DCP last year. Now, in the latest reshuffle, Commissioner Anand has appointed Iqbal Siddiqui as the new Additional DCP for both the West and South-West teams. Prior to this, Siddiqui served as Additional DCP with the Central Crime Station (CCS).

A Career of Distinction: Siddiqui’s Previous Roles

Iqbal Siddiqui is known for his long and distinguished service in various key positions within the police force. Before elections, he served as Additional DCP of the Western Division, and afterward as Additional DCP for the South-West Zone. Earlier in his career, he worked as Inspector in important police stations, including Banjara Hills. During the high-profile case involving cricketer Shoaib Malik and tennis star Sania Mirza, Siddiqui was the Inspector in charge at Banjara Hills and handled the situation effectively.

He also has field experience working as a Sub-Inspector in the East Zone Task Force and as an Inspector in the South Zone Task Force. One of his most notable achievements includes the seizure of fake currency notes worth ₹2.5 crore, printed in Pakistan, during a major operation in the Old City on August 25, 2007. This was one of the largest counterfeit currency seizures in Hyderabad’s police history and was led by Siddiqui himself.

He also played a crucial role in investigating major incidents such as the Mecca Masjid bomb blast and the twin bombings at Gokul Chat and Lumbini Park that occurred in the same year. Additionally, Siddiqui served as Additional DCP, Crimes-2, in Cyberabad, further adding to his extensive policing experience.

With the appointment of Iqbal Siddiqui to this new role, the Hyderabad Police Department hopes to enhance its operational efficiency and strengthen law enforcement in key areas of the city.
