Israel’s 15-Year Plan to Kill Iranian Nuclear Scientists

London, 1 July – (www.deccanlive.com): Israel had planned to kill more than 12 top Iranian nuclear scientists at the same time as part of its ongoing secret operations against Tehran. This plan was the result of 15 years of surveillance, during which Israel closely tracked the scientists’ movements.
According to sources who spoke with the Wall Street Journal, the timing of the attacks was carefully chosen to make sure the scientists couldn’t escape or hide.
Israel reportedly started monitoring these scientists in 2003, after discovering that Iran had begun trying to develop nuclear weapons. Israel’s actions became more aggressive in 2010, when two scientists were attacked in assassination attempts.
One of the scientists killed in recent attacks was Fereydoon Abbasi, a former head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, who had survived an assassination attempt in 2010.
Another was Mohammad Mehdi Taranchi, a professor at Beheshti University, who was responsible for making explosive materials used in nuclear weapons.
Involved in Nuclear Warhead Testing
Most of the scientists killed during the 12-day war were believed to be working on the testing and assembly of nuclear warheads. Among them was Seyed Siddiqi Saber, a senior scientist sanctioned by the U.S. for his role in Iran’s nuclear program.
These were the first major attacks on Iranian scientists since the 2020 assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was considered the father of Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
Israel Targeted Iran’s Top Nuclear Minds
According to the Wall Street Journal, Eric Brewer, a former U.S. National Security official, said that losing such experts during critical stages of nuclear weapon development could seriously harm Iran’s program.
On June 13, nine scientists were killed when Israel launched multiple missiles at their homes in Tehran. Later attacks reportedly killed at least five more.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that Israel has now killed around 17 of Iran’s top nuclear scientists.
