Major Accident in Nagarkurnool: Six Workers Feared Trapped After Tunnel Roof Collapse

A senior police officer informed that according to the construction company’s report, six to eight workers are feared to be trapped.

Nagarkurnool, 22 February – (www.deccanlive.com): The incident occurred in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana, where a section of the under-construction Srisailam Tunnel Canal collapsed, possibly trapping at least six laborers inside.

Police stated that the construction company’s team has entered the tunnel to assess the situation and confirm the exact number of workers affected.

A senior officer explained, “The accident happened when some workers were inside the tunnel for work, and suddenly, a part of the roof collapsed about 12-13 kilometers inside.”

A press release from the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed injuries but did not specify the exact number of victims.

Telangana CM A. Revanth Reddy has directed the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and other officials to rush to the site for rescue operations.

Following the CM’s orders, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Irrigation Advisor Adityanath Das, and other officials have also been dispatched to the location.

Meanwhile, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy expressed concern over the accident and urged authorities to safely evacuate the trapped workers. A statement from his office mentioned that he also instructed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
