Maldives Bans Entry of Israelis in Response to Gaza Genocide

Gaza, 16 April (www.deccanlive.com): The President of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, has officially approved an order on Tuesday to ban Israelis from entering the country. The Maldivian Presidential Office stated that this ban reflects the island nation’s stand against Israel’s ongoing genocide against the people of Palestine.

According to Al Jazeera Net, the Maldives, a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), strongly condemns Israel’s war crimes and demands accountability for violations of international law.

In April last year, one of the Maldivian islands already banned entry for Israeli passport holders, with public signs declaring, “We don’t want your blood-stained money.”

At that time, a tourist TikToker posted a video showing signs on the island’s beaches, saying that Israelis are not welcome as a sign of solidarity with the people of Gaza.

It is important to note that Maldivian citizens had earlier protested outside their Parliament to express their anger over the Israeli aggression in Gaza.

A Maldivian Member of Parliament had also proposed an amendment to the immigration law to stop Israeli passport holders from entering the country after the beginning of Israel’s attacks on Gaza.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with full support from the United States, has been carrying out a brutal campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in the death and injury of nearly 167,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and over 11,000 people are still missing.
