Muslim Man Burned Alive in Uttar Pradesh for Refusing to Withdraw Rape Case (Video)

Mainpuri, 20 February – (www.deccanlive.com): A Muslim man was burned alive in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district. The victim, 40-year-old Sajid, refused to withdraw a case he had filed against a former village head, Bhola Yadu, accusing him of kidnapping and gang-raping his wife.

On Tuesday, Sajid’s burned body, which was unrecognizable, was found in a field. The trial for his case was supposed to happen two days later. Reports say that Sajid was set on fire with diesel. Yadu’s associates called him and attacked him. Sajid’s father, Ashiq Ali, blamed Yadu for this brutal murder. He referred to the case of kidnapping and gang rape against the former village head, crying as he spoke to the press, saying, “What do I wish for now? I just want to die. My son has been killed. What will I do living? His body was burned so it couldn’t be identified. The case of his wife’s gang rape is already in court.”

The accused were pressuring us to settle the case outside of court. The former village head had even offered money to withdraw the case, but we refused. Speaking about the rape incident, Sajid’s wife said that in June 2022, she was invited to cook food at the former head’s house, where she was gang-raped by him and his two associates.

According to the Times of India, she stated, “The former head invited me to cook food at his house, and he, along with his two companions, raped me. The next day, when I was going to the police station to file a complaint, he kidnapped me and kept me imprisoned in his house for 4 months and 10 days.” They had filed a case against him, which is now ongoing in the local court.

He pressured my husband to settle, but we refused. He also threatened to kill my brother. Sajid and his family repeatedly pleaded with the kidnappers, and eventually, they released him. Ashiq Ali, Sajid’s father, stated that they filed a kidnapping complaint with the local police, but no one paid attention to it. Later, they filed a complaint with the city police, after which his daughter-in-law was released.

In the rape case, Sajid’s wife’s lawyer, Mahender Bhardwaj, said that complaints were filed for both rape and kidnapping, but later, the rape charge was removed from the FIR. However, following the lawyer’s objection, the court ordered that the charge of gang rape be included in the FIR. The case is still ongoing. Regarding the murder, Mainpuri’s ASP Rahul Mithas said that as soon as the body was found, it was sent for post-mortem. A thorough investigation is ongoing, and necessary action will be taken.
