New Ration Cards Issued in Telangana After 10 Years

Hyderabad, 13 July – (www.deccanlive.com): The Telangana government is officially distributing new ration cards for the first time in a decade. The distribution will begin on Monday at Tirumalagiri in Tungaturthi constituency, Suryapet district, where Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will hand over the cards.
So far, since the Congress government came to power, 5,61,343 new ration cards have been issued. This distribution is expected to benefit around 84% of the state’s population.
Background:
Back in the past, under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the central government had issued about 55 lakh cards, and the then state government issued an additional 30 lakh cards. By the time the BRS government lost power in 2023, there were around 89.95 lakh ration cards in the state.
After the Congress came to power, on January 26 (Republic Day), CM Revanth Reddy announced the issuing of new cards. From January to May 23, 2.03 lakh cards were issued, and from May 24 to now, another 3.58 lakh cards have been issued online.
Now, the total number of active ration cards in the state has reached 95,56,625, covering 3.09 crore beneficiaries, according to the Civil Supplies Department.
District-wise Distribution:
- The highest number of new ration cards will be distributed in Nalgonda district: 50,102 cards.
- Followed by Karimnagar with 31,772 cards.
- Hyderabad has the highest number of overall cards: 6,67,778.
- Mulugu has the fewest: 96,982 cards.
Minister’s Statement:
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the 5.61 lakh new cards will benefit over 45.34 lakh people, and the additions/updates in existing cards will help another 28.32 lakh people.
