Haleem Business Hits ₹1000 Crore!

Hyderabad, 3 April – (www.deccanlive.com): When Ramadan arrives, the first thing that comes to mind for Hyderabadis is Haleem. This special dish, available only during Ramadan, attracts meat lovers across the city.
This year, Haleem sales reached record levels, with an estimated business of ₹1000 crore. Traders report that Hyderabad saw the highest Haleem sales in the entire country. Restaurants and food stalls remained packed throughout the month, serving the nutritious and delicious Haleem to eager customers.
Special counters and stalls were set up in front of every hotel to sell Haleem. According to the Hyderabad Hotels Association, around 50 lakh (5 million) plates of Haleem were sold this season. Compared to last year, sales increased by 20%.
Haleem was not just popular in hotels but also on food delivery apps like Swiggy and Zomato, where food lovers ordered it in large numbers. Takeaways and online deliveries contributed significantly to the rise in sales.
6,000 Haleem Selling Points in Hyderabad
In the Greater Hyderabad area, nearly 6,000 small and medium Haleem stalls were set up, apart from major restaurants. Not only small and mid-sized restaurants, but even star hotels made Haleem a must-have dish on their Ramadan season menu.
Haleem surpassed Hyderabadi Biryani to become the top-selling dish on the menu. Small stalls sold around 100 plates per day, while big hotels and well-known centers sold approximately 500–600 plates daily.
Haleem Sales Increased by 25% on Weekends
The price of one plate of Haleem ranged between ₹100 and ₹320. While mutton Haleem was the most common, some areas also had chicken and beef Haleem stalls. About 70% of these stalls were located in Old City, Hyderabad.
On average, Haleem sales generated ₹30–₹35 crore per day. According to Jahangir, a Haleem stall owner, sales were 25% higher on weekends compared to regular days.
Compared to Old City, Haleem sales were higher in Cyberabad, according to Nasar, the manager of Sheraton Hotel. He mentioned that popular food bloggers promoting Haleem helped boost sales significantly.
