Syria: Clashes with Pro-Bashar Groups, Syrian Security Forces Deploy Reinforcements in Jableh

Aleppo, 7 March – (www.deccanlive.com): On Friday, Syrian security forces launched a large-scale combing operation in Latakia and Tartus against remnants of the former government. According to reports from Arab Media, Syrian forces have taken control of the centers of Tartus and Latakia governorates and are preparing to enter rural areas.
Additional reinforcements have been sent to Jableh, where clashes continue in several areas along the Syrian coast. Reports indicate that remnants of the former government carried out planned and coordinated ambush attacks. This security campaign against Bashar al-Assad’s remnants is one of the largest of its kind.
In response to the escalating violence, Syria’s state news agency “SANA” reported that a curfew has been imposed in the cities of Latakia and Tartus. Violent clashes erupted between Syrian forces and armed remnants from Thursday night into Friday morning. Following an attack on a military convoy on the Aleppo-Latakia road, fighting intensified.
Arab Media cameras captured a large military force departing from camps in rural Idlib to support Syrian forces along the coast. Hundreds of Syrian army fighters have gathered at Umayyad Square in Damascus, preparing to confront the government remnants.
A military convoy was ambushed on the Aleppo-Latakia road, triggering further clashes. A video circulating online shows a massive military convoy moving towards the Syrian coast. Another military convoy left the city of Al-Bab, east of Aleppo, to reinforce security forces and the Ministry of Defense against pro-Bashar attacks.
Field Commander Mohammed Hussein stated that the Syrian government’s actions are not targeted against any particular sect but are intended to strengthen security across Syria and prevent further divisions.
Reports indicate that over 16 members of the Syrian Public Security Forces were killed in coordinated attacks by government remnants in Jableh. Violent clashes continue near the Naval College, with heavy reinforcements arriving from the Ministry of Defense.
