Hyderabad: Plan to Transform Mir Alam Tank into a Tourist Spot

Hyderabad, 9 February – (DeccanLive.com): Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has called a meeting with top officials to review plans to turn Mir Alam Tank, part of the old city’s development projects, into a beautiful tourist spot. He emphasized the need to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the cable bridge to be built over the tank within the next 90 days and to complete the bridge’s construction in 30 months. The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the Chief Minister’s advisor, municipal department heads, and other key figures.
The Chief Minister stressed that the development of Greater Hyderabad, especially the old city, is a priority. He wants the cable bridge over Mir Alam Tank to be the most beautiful among all bridges in the city. Officials presented three proposals for building a 2.5-kilometer-long bridge over the lake. After reviewing them, the Chief Minister suggested some changes and asked for an updated report within two days.
He also reviewed various designs for developing Mir Alam Tank near the zoo in the old city and instructed officials to plan an international-style cable bridge. The government has approved all necessary permissions for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to proceed. Along with the cable bridge, there are plans to build a large park around the tank.
The government has designed the cable bridge with global standards and unique features under the PPP model, despite high costs. Plans include decorative lighting, viewpoints, musical fountains in the tank, cultural and heritage landmarks, luxury hotels, parks, and green spaces to promote tourism and recreational activities. The proposed cable suspension bridge will be 2.5 kilometers long, 16.5 meters wide, and have four lanes.
