Israel Agrees to 60-Day Ceasefire in Gaza: Trump Claims

Washington, 2 July – (www.deccanlive.com): U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Israel has agreed to the conditions for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza.

According to Trump, during this proposed ceasefire, all parties will work together to bring an end to the war.

As reported by a British news agency, Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social that Qatari and Egyptian mediators will present the final proposal. He added:

“I hope Hamas accepts this deal, because they won’t get a better one. Only worse.”

Israel launched a military operation in Gaza on October 7, 2023, after an attack by Hamas, which killed around 1,200 people. Since then, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry run by Hamas, about 56,647 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict.

It is still unclear whether Hamas will accept the conditions of the proposed ceasefire.

Trump’s statement comes ahead of his upcoming meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which he said will be a tough discussion. Trump said:

“I believe Netanyahu wants to end the war. I think there will be a deal next week.”

Meanwhile, a senior Hamas leader told a British news agency last week that mediation efforts have increased, but talks with Israel are still stalled.

Israel says that the war will only end after the complete defeat of Hamas, while Hamas continues to demand a permanent ceasefire and full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Currently, about 50 Israeli hostages are still believed to be in Gaza, with only 20 confirmed alive so far.

Trump’s comments come as Israel has ordered civilians to evacuate from northern Gaza again.

On Monday, an Israeli airstrike hit a café in Gaza City, killing at least 20 Palestinians, according to eyewitnesses and medical sources.
