TGSRTC Workers Threaten Strike Over Merger Delays and Unmet Demands

Hyderabad, 27 January
Union representatives of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) have issued a strike notice to Executive Director Munisekhar at Bus Bhavan on Monday, January 27, urging the state government to address unresolved issues.
Key Demands of the Unions:
- Merger with the State Government: Workers demand the long-promised merger of RTC employees with the state government.
- 21st Wage Revision Commission: The formation of a new wage commission to address employee pay adjustments.
- Job Security for Drivers: Drivers who purchased RTC buses are concerned about job security due to the introduction of electric buses.
- Control of Electric Buses: Workers insist that the electric bus fleet remain under government control and oppose any privatization efforts.
While employees welcome the addition of electric buses, they strongly oppose their privatization, fearing job losses and lack of control over operations.
Rising Tensions and Police Deployment:
Increased police presence was seen at Bus Bhavan as tensions grew among workers. Employees expressed frustration over the government’s failure to merge RTC with the state and the potential impact of new electric buses on their jobs. They also highlighted the extra workload caused by the free bus service for women.
Concerns of Retired Employees:
The unions also stressed that unresolved issues extend to retired workers who are awaiting unpaid arrears, pay adjustments, and other pending benefits.
Strike Threat:
The unions have set a deadline for the government to respond and warned of a state-wide strike if their demands remain unmet. However, it is unclear if all RTC employees will participate in the strike.
The state government is expected to release a statement within the next few days.
