Telangana: 3 KGBV Students Die by Suicide on Same Day – What Is Happening There?

Warangal, 16 July – (www.deccanlive.com): In a deeply shocking and tragic series of events, three girl students from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) in different districts of Telangana have died by suicide on the same day, raising serious concerns about student safety, mental health, and the education system.
Case 1: Girl Dies by Hanging After Alleged Harassment
In Yabajiguda village, Parigi Mandal, Vikarabad district, a 16-year-old girl named Naveendra died by suicide by hanging herself in a shed near her house. According to the girl’s family, a young man named Thimmagalla Naveen Kumar from the same village was harassing her repeatedly.
They allege that he even used to come to Palamakula KGBV where the girl was studying earlier, making her feel scared and isolated. Due to his continued presence at the school, the principal issued a Transfer Certificate fearing it might affect other students.
After this, the girl became quiet and stopped talking to others. When no one was home, she took the extreme step. The family has filed a complaint with the police. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
Case 2: 10th Class Student Found Hanging in Classroom
In Nadikuda Mandal, Suryapet district, Tanusha Mahalaxmi (14), a 10th-grade student from KGBV, was found dead by hanging in her classroom. She had recently returned to school after recovering from fever.
Her mother had visited on Sunday and her father on Monday. On Tuesday early morning, her body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in the classroom.
The school’s Hindi teacher Sunitha informed the school official Venkataramana and the police. Based on a complaint from her father, police have registered a case.
Case 3: Girl Jumps from School Building in KT Doddi Mandal
In another incident, Sai Shruti, an Inter first-year student from KT Doddi Mandal, Gadwal District, attempted suicide by jumping from the first floor of her KGBV school building.
She suffered serious spinal injuries and was first taken to Gadwal District Hospital, then later shifted to NIMS, Hyderabad for advanced treatment.
According to the special officer Padmavati, Shruti was worried about family-related issues, which could have led to the attempt.

These back-to-back tragedies in government-run KGBV residential schools have created panic and grief among parents.
Many are urging the Telangana Government, especially CM Revanth Reddy, to take urgent action to investigate the causes behind these suicides and protect the lives of vulnerable students.
