Engineering Seats: B Category Admission Notification Tomorrow in Telangana

Hyderabad, 18 July – (www.deccanlive.com): Engineering colleges in Telangana will begin the admission process for B Category (Management Quota) seats starting July 19. On this day, each college will issue its notification.
The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) has announced that all admissions under B category must be completed by August 10. The schedule was released on Thursday by the Council Chairman Prof. B. Balakishan Reddy.
As commonly known, 70% of engineering seats are filled through government counseling under Convenor Quota. The remaining 30% are referred to as B Category seats.
Concerns About B Category Seats:
According to rules, B Category seats must also be allotted based on merit and at the same fee as the Convenor Quota. However, many colleges are being accused of charging large donations ranging from ₹6 lakh to ₹12 lakh for these seats, effectively turning them into commercial sales.
Some colleges also allocate half of their 30% B Category seats to NRI/NRI-sponsored candidates, who may be charged up to \$5000 (USD). But due to low demand, most colleges are reducing fees by more than half for branches other than CSE (Computer Science Engineering) and a few related courses.
This Year, Notification Allowed Earlier
Last year (2024), permission for notification was given on July 31. But this year, approval has been given 12 days earlier to avoid delays in admissions. Chairman Prof. Reddy said that if admissions are delayed, students may opt for colleges in other states or join private and deemed universities within the state.
Another concern is that if a student gets a seat in Convenor Quota and pays the fee, then later joins under B Category, they may face financial trouble as the fee paid earlier is not immediately refunded. That’s why this year, the council gave early permission to release the notification to streamline the process.
Last year, about 28,000 students got admissions under the B Category across Telangana.
