BJP’s Eid Gift to Muslims? Eid Holiday Canceled in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana!

New Delhi, 30 March – (www.deccanlive.com): The BJP-led governments in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have canceled the Eid holiday, sparking outrage among the Muslim community.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government announced that employees of the Electricity Department will have to work on March 31, the day of Eid. The UP Power Corporation Chairman, Dr. Ashish Goyal, issued an order stating that all electricity department offices will remain open on March 30 (Sunday) and March 31 (Monday, Eid al-Fitr) due to the financial year-end. The decision ensures that revenue collection is not affected.
Meanwhile, in Haryana, the BJP government went a step further by completely canceling the Eid holiday. The gazetted holiday for Eid has been converted into a restricted holiday, meaning it is no longer a mandatory day off for government employees.
This marks the first time that the Eid holiday has been officially canceled in Haryana. According to media reports, the Chief Secretary issued the orders, justifying the decision by citing the end of the financial year (March 31, 2024-25) as the reason.
The move has drawn criticism, with many questioning whether financial concerns outweigh the religious rights of Muslim employees.
