Indian Nurse Nimisha Priya to Be Hanged in Yemen on July 16

Sanaa, 8 July – (www.deccanlive.com): An Indian nurse named Nimisha Priya has been given the death penalty in Yemen, and the court has fixed the date of her execution as July 16.

Why is She Being Hanged?

Nimisha Priya is accused of murdering a Yemeni man named Talal Abdo Mehdi. She was running a clinic in Yemen with Talal’s help. According to reports, she killed him in 2017 because she was suffering from mental and physical abuse.

Talks and Hope to Save Her

A social worker named Samuel Jerome Baskaran, who is in contact with Yemeni officials and the victim’s family, said that negotiations are still going on. But the family has not responded positively yet.

They were offered \$1 million (around 8 crore rupees) as blood money (compensation to forgive the killer), and Indian sponsors are trying to arrange this amount. If the victim’s family accepts the money, the execution can be stopped.

Family Background

Nimisha is from Palakkad, Kerala. Her mother, Prema Kumari, works as a housemaid. Nimisha had worked in Yemen as a nurse for several years before she was arrested.

Court Decision

  • First, a lower court in Yemen gave her the death sentence.
  • Then the Supreme Court of Yemen also confirmed the punishment.
  • Finally, the President of Yemen, Rashad Al-Alimi, approved the sentence.

Now, the only way to save her life is if the victim’s family agrees to forgive her in exchange for money.

Indian authorities may also step in to help, but time is running out.
