Three Brothers Complete MBBS Using the Same Set of Books

Despite Financial Struggles, Sons of Sugar Mill Worker Rafique Patel Achieve Medical Degrees
Ahmednagar, Maharashtra – 26 February – (www.deccanlive.com): Azharuddin (31), Mohsin (29), and Rameez Patel (27) are the sons of a sugar mill worker, Rafique Patel, from Mula village in Sonai Taluka, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Despite severe financial difficulties, the family managed to provide education to all three sons, making them doctors.
One Set of Books for All Three Brothers
When Dr. Azharuddin was selected for MBBS, a village organization gifted him a set of medical books. The same books were later used by Mohsin and Rameez to complete their MBBS studies, one after another.
All three brothers secured admission in MBBS under the government quota, making their achievement even more inspiring. Their family had no prior background in higher education, as they belonged to a labor-class community.
Thanks to the dedication and continuous efforts of their parents, Rafique Patel and Rehana, the three brothers overcame all obstacles and made their family and village proud by becoming doctors.
These three brothers have fulfilled the long-time dream of their parents and uncle, Sheikh Haju, by becoming doctors. They completed their primary education at the Zilla Parishad School in Mola village and their secondary education at New English School. For higher secondary studies (11th and 12th), they attended Maulana Azad College in Aurangabad.
Dr. Azharuddin scored 92% in SSC and 83% in HSC, Dr. Mohsin Patel achieved 94% and 77%, while Dr. Rameez Patel secured 91% and 81%, respectively. They pursued their MBBS degrees at different medical colleges: Dr. Azharuddin from BJ Medical College, Pune; Dr. Mohsin from Government Medical College, Aurangabad; and Dr. Rameez from Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College, Nanded.
Dr. Azharuddin completed his MBBS in 2018, Dr. Mohsin in 2019, and Dr. Rameez in 2021. Currently, Dr. Azharuddin is working in the Medicine Department at IGG Medical College, Nagpur, while Dr. Mohsin Patel serves as a Medical Officer at a Health Center in Ahmednagar. Their younger brother, Dr. Rameez Patel, is preparing for the NEET exam to pursue a postgraduate (MD) degree.
In a conversation with Journalist, Dr. Mohsin Patel credited his success to his parents, saying, “They always encouraged us at every step.” He also acknowledged the support of his uncle, Sheikh Haju, a teacher in Aurangabad, who guided them throughout their education.
When asked about their journey, Dr. Mohsin shared an inspiring story. “When my elder brother Azharuddin Patel got admission into MBBS, a local organization in our village gifted him a set of books for his first year. After him, I used the same set for my first-year studies, and later, my younger brother Rameez Patel also studied from the same books. So, all three of us completed our first year of MBBS using a single set of books,” he said.
Dr. Mohsin also revealed the motivation behind their dream of becoming doctors. “In 2006, our mother suffered severe injuries in a road accident and remained in the hospital for 42 days. This incident deeply affected my elder brother Azharuddin, who was in the 9th grade at the time, and he decided to become a doctor.”
Highlighting the importance of focus and dedication, Dr. Azharuddin said, “Success is not difficult if we work hard and stay committed. We avoided distractions like mobile phones and focused on our studies, which led to our achievements.”
