Thousands of Israelis Protest Against Netanyahu, Accused of Sacrificing Prisoners for Politics

Occupied Jerusalem, 19 March – (PIC): Thousands of Israelis protested in Jerusalem on Wednesday against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to dismiss Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar and the Attorney General.
The protesters accused Netanyahu’s government of sacrificing Israeli prisoners to fulfill personal political interests.
Israeli police blocked roads leading to Jerusalem as opposition politicians led the march.
Shikma Bresler, a protest leader, said, “Yesterday, we heard from senior security officials, and the picture is clear: this is a government that considers Hamas a treasure and is using it to fulfill its political agenda.”
Bresler also accused the government of “sacrificing the lives of prisoners” and criticized Netanyahu for bringing back the person who previously boasted about sabotaging the deal.
Shikma Bresler stated, “It’s time to end this madness before there’s nothing left to save. We need to act now.”
During the protest, a reserve officer leading the Brothers in Arms movement said, “At a time of war and rising tensions, the government and the prime minister are trying to remove the head of Shin Bet.”
The officer called Defense Minister Israel Katz the “Minister of Draft Dodgers.” He added, “They dance at the weddings of those avoiding mandatory military service and promise them they won’t be drafted.”
Another officer accused Netanyahu of starting a “war for the security of his chair.” He said Netanyahu “restarted the war to save his political future.”
“We are protesting to save Israeli democracy and the lives of our brothers held by Hamas. This is not why our ancestors founded the Jewish state. This is our generation’s fight. We have no choice but to protect the guardians of our homeland forever,” he added.
