Hyderabad: Sister’s Love Saves Brother’s Life – Boy Defeats Rare Blood Disease

Hyderabad, 17 July – (www.deccanlive.com): An 11-year-old boy from Hyderabad was fighting a rare and life-threatening blood disease called aplastic anemia. His 10-year-old sister did something brave and inspiring – she donated her stem cells to save her brother’s life. Their bond of love touched everyone’s heart, and the brother began to recover quickly thanks to her courage.

The boy was admitted to KIMS Cuddles Hospital in Kondapur with a high fever and dangerously low blood counts. After tests, doctors discovered that his bone marrow had stopped producing blood cells, a condition that affects less than 7 out of 1 million children. The only way to save his life was through a stem cell transplant.

Dr. Chandana Mareddy, a specialist in pediatric blood diseases and bone marrow transplants, explained that the family needed a donor from among their relatives. Immediately, the boy’s younger sister, who was already present, stepped forward and volunteered. She told the doctors, “I will do anything to save my brother. You can take as many stem cells as you need from me.”

Even though their genes only partially matched, doctors successfully carried out the transplant. Normally, recovery from such a procedure takes several weeks, and there is a high risk of infection. But to everyone’s surprise, the boy recovered within just three weeks and was even discharged and sent home.

Dr. Chandana praised the boy’s courage and fighting spirit. She said that even during his serious condition, he kept talking about going back to school and playing again. Thankfully, the transplant had no side effects, and the child made a smooth recovery.

The doctor said that the boy was saved by three powerful forces:

  1. His own courage
  2. His sister’s love and sacrifice
  3. The medical treatment

Currently, the boy is in a stable and fully recovering condition.
