Telangana Panchayat Elections: First Phase Voting Continues; Minor Clashes Reported

The first phase of the Telangana Panchayat Elections is currently underway across the state. Voters have been arriving at polling centres since morning, creating a lively atmosphere in many villages. According to officials, 19.58% voter turnout was recorded by 9 AM.

Many people working in cities and towns have returned to their native villages to cast their vote. Police have tightened security near polling booths to prevent any untoward incidents. Polling is also being monitored through webcasting.

Arguments and Clashes in Nalgonda District

Minor clashes were reported in a few places during the polling process. In Urumadla village of Chityal mandal, Nalgonda district, a heated argument broke out between Congress and BRS leaders.

Former MLA Kancherla Bhopal Reddy and Dairy Corporation Chairman Gutta Amit Reddy got into a war of words. Police quickly intervened and dispersed both groups.

In Korlapahad of Ketepally mandal, groups from two sides attacked each other with stones and knives. Four people were injured and shifted to a hospital. Additional police forces were deployed in the village to bring the situation under control.

Polling Halted in Nagarkurnool Over Missing Election Symbol

Polling was briefly stopped in Kuppagandla’s 10th ward in Veldanda mandal, Nagarkurnool district. The issue occurred because the ballot paper did not display the election symbol of candidate Derangula Yadamma.

Officials halted polling for about 30 minutes and resumed it after bringing fresh ballot papers.

Elderly and Disabled Voters Facing Difficulties

In Palamakula polling centre of Shamshabad mandal, Ranga Reddy district, elderly and disabled voters faced difficulties due to the lack of wheelchairs. Family members had to physically carry them to the polling station so they could cast their vote.

Polling across the state is continuing amid tight security, and a higher turnout is expected as the day progresses.
