Saudi Arabia: Fake Medical Reports Can Lead to Jail and ₹100,000 Fine

Riyadh, 11 March – (K.N. Wasif): In Saudi Arabia, some local and foreign residents take sick leave from work by submitting fake medical certificates. The Saudi Ministry of Health has warned that using fake medical reports to get sick leave is illegal and punishable by imprisonment and fines.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the ministry has also launched a campaign against social media accounts that encourage people to take sick leave through illegal means. The statement said that those who issue fake or false medical reports can face a fine of up to 100,000 Riyals and one year in prison.
The ministry reminded healthcare professionals of their ethical and legal responsibilities. It stressed that sick leave should only be given to those who genuinely need it. The legal way to apply for sick leave in Saudi Arabia is through the “Sehati” platform, which ensures the accuracy and transparency of medical reports.
To prevent fraud, the ministry has introduced a digital monitoring system that checks medical reports against patient health records.
The Ministry of Health has urged citizens and residents to stay alert to fake social media accounts offering fake medical certificates through illegal methods.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing regulations and improving healthcare services in the country.
