Amritsar Temple Attacker Killed in Police Encounter

Amritsar, 17 March – (www.deccanlive.com): A suspect involved in the grenade attack on a temple in Amritsar, Punjab, was killed in a police encounter. The attack, which took place on Friday night, was captured on CCTV.

According to reports, the police tried to stop the two suspects, but they started firing at the police. In response, the police fired back, killing the main suspect. The grenade attack happened in the Khandwala area of Amritsar.

According to India Today, the main suspect has been identified as Gursidak Singh. He was injured in the police firing and later died in the hospital. However, his accomplice, identified as Vishal, managed to escape.

Reports suggest that police received information about the suspects’ movement in the Rajasansi area. Following this, a joint team of the CIA and police was formed to arrest them. When the police tried to stop the suspects, they abandoned their bike and started firing. During the exchange, Constable Gurpreet Singh was shot in the left arm, and Inspector Amolak Singh was also injured. In the return fire, Inspector Vinod Kumar shot and injured Gursidak Singh.

Punjab police suspect that Pakistan’s intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), may have been involved in the attack on Thakur Dwara Temple. The police had earlier vowed to catch the culprits quickly.

Although no one was injured in the attack, it created fear among the residents of Amritsar’s Khandwala area.

The CCTV footage shows two unidentified men approaching the Thakur Dwara Temple on a motorcycle. After stopping for a few seconds, one of them throws an explosive toward the temple before they both escape. Amritsar’s Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that the temple priest reported the incident to the police around 2:00 AM on Saturday night.
