Why Owaisi’s Fatima College Was Not Demolished – HYDRA Gives Clarification

Hyderabad, 9 July – (www.deccanlive.com): The Hyderabad Development Authority (HYDRA) has clarified why it did not demolish Owaisi’s Fatima College, which was reportedly built near Salakam Cheruvu (a lake). The reason given is social welfare — the college is providing free education to poor Muslim girls from Kindergarten to Postgraduate level, and no fees are collected from students.
HYDRA said that over 10,000 girls and women are studying at this college and it plays a key role in uplifting underprivileged Muslim women. Because of this, no demolition action was taken against the college, even though it is built in the FTL (Full Tank Level) area of the lake.
At the same time, HYDRA stated that it has taken strict action against illegal properties owned by MIM leaders. It has already recovered around ₹1,000 crore worth of properties from MIM members. Illegal constructions, including buildings built on a 25-acre lake converted into flats by people close to the Owaisi family, have been demolished.
HYDRA also took over land illegally occupied by an MIM corporator in Chandrayangutta. It emphasized that only due to social reasons, Fatima College was spared and that it is being run with community awareness.
Controversy
Earlier, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay made strong remarks about the issue. He questioned why HYDRA posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying they would not touch the college owned by MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi.
He demanded an explanation from CM Revanth Reddy on whether this was the state government’s decision or a personal decision by a HYDRA official. He pointed out that HYDRA had demolished poor people’s huts in the Musi river area but did not act against Akbaruddin Owaisi’s college, even after giving notices last year.
He questioned why HYDRA didn’t ask the college to relocate this year.
