BJP Looks for New Candidate to Replace Raja Singh in Goshamahal

Hyderabad, 13 July – (www.deccanlive.com): The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is giving special attention to the Goshamahal Assembly constituency in Hyderabad. This area is one of the few strongholds the BJP has in Greater Hyderabad. The party has already won from this seat in the last three elections — 2014, 2018, and 2023.
In the 2018 elections, Goshamahal was the only seat BJP won in the entire state, helping it save face. Now, after Raja Singh’s resignation, the BJP doesn’t want to lose control over this seat. That’s why the party is making strategic political moves to maintain its grip.
As part of their strategy, BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy and other senior leaders organized a public meeting in Goshamahal to show strength and motivate the local party workers.
Raja Singh, known for his Hindutva ideology, had built strong support in the Old City of Hyderabad — an area traditionally considered an AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen) stronghold. In the last GHMC (Hyderabad city council) elections, the BJP managed to win all the municipal divisions under Goshamahal, thanks to this support base.
The BJP now aims to retain this momentum in future elections. The party leadership has made it clear they want to retain the sitting seat at any cost.
Currently, BJP has a strong presence in Greater Hyderabad, with leaders like Union Minister Kishan Reddy, MP Laxman, and State President Ramchander Rao all representing the area. The party also has over 40 corporators in the city.
In the Old City, BJP is emerging as the second biggest party after AIMIM. So the BJP wants to grow as a stronger force there and believes that challenging AIMIM in Goshamahal can strengthen its base across Hyderabad.
As the BJP prepares its next big move, all eyes are on who will be their candidate to take on both Raja Singh and AIMIM in Goshamahal.
