Bride Flees with ₹4 Lakh Jewelry in Varanasi: Groom Waits 6 Hours After Wedding Rituals

Varanasi, 7 March – (www.deccanlive.com): In Varanasi, a bride ran away with ₹4 lakh worth of jewelry after the wedding rituals. She had already taken the seven vows with the groom, but when it was time for the farewell ceremony, both the bride and her brother went missing.

Unaware of this, the groom waited for six hours, expecting the farewell to happen. When the bride’s disappearance was discovered, the groom’s family created an uproar, and the groom’s father called the police. After hours of discussions, both families were taken to the police station.

The bride and her brother remained untraceable, and their phones were switched off. The police detained the bride’s father for questioning. The groom’s family filed a complaint against the bride, her brother, and her father, demanding action.

The wedding had been arranged between Siddharth Kumar from Bhadohi district and Rita, daughter of Kripashankar from Varanasi. The ring ceremony took place in January, and the wedding was scheduled for March 6. The groom and his family arrived with the wedding procession in Varanasi, where they received a grand welcome.

After the traditional rituals, the bride and groom exchanged garlands and took photos. They had dinner with their families, and the wedding ceremonies began. However, before the farewell, the bride disappeared, leaving the groom waiting. The police are now investigating the case.

After the seven vows, the groom’s family gifted the bride traditional jewelry and ornaments in the wedding mandap. The wedding rituals were completed around 4 AM, and the farewell was scheduled for 8 AM.

In the morning, the bride’s family delayed the farewell, so the groom and his relatives decided to rest. The groom also went to sleep. At 8 AM, the groom’s father, Indrajeet, called the bride’s father, Kripashankar, for the farewell, but Kripashankar asked for more time. As the delay continued, the groom’s family sent most of the wedding guests home, keeping only close relatives.

When the groom’s brother went to the bride’s house, she was nowhere to be found. Upon further inquiry, they discovered that the bride had run away, and a search was ongoing. Local people reported seeing the bride, Rita, leaving on a bike with her brother in the morning.

Frustrated, the groom’s father created an uproar, and a village meeting (panchayat) was held. The police arrived, gathered information from both sides, and conducted an investigation. Both families were taken to the police station, where it was confirmed that the bride had fled.

The groom’s family waited from 10 AM to 2 PM, but the bride did not return. The groom’s father filed a police complaint, accusing the bride’s family of taking away ₹4 lakh worth of jewelry. According to Badaun police officer Atul Kumar Singh, the bride’s family refused to proceed with the farewell, and the matter is under investigation.
