Number of Infant Deaths Due to Harsh Cold in Besieged Gaza Rises to Seven

Gaza, 26 February – (PIC): The Ministry of Health in Gaza has announced the death of another infant due to the severe cold wave in the besieged Gaza Strip. This has raised the number of infants who died from freezing temperatures to seven.

Dr. Munir Al-Barsh, Director General of the Ministry of Health, stated on Wednesday that a baby girl named Sila Abdul Qadir, who was less than two months old, died from extreme cold in Gaza. Within just 48 hours, the number of infants who lost their lives due to the freezing temperatures has reached seven.

Dr. Munir Al-Barsh stated that since the beginning of winter, the total number of children who have died due to extreme cold has reached 15.

Hospitals in the Gaza Strip, especially children’s hospitals, are unable to provide treatment for cases suffering from cold-related complications.

Dr. Al-Barsh also pointed out that the Israeli occupation forces have destroyed medical equipment used for treating newborns. Incubators and intensive care unit (ICU) supplies have been damaged, leaving northern Gaza with no medical facilities.

He called on the international community and United Nations agencies to intervene immediately to protect Gaza’s children from the genocide carried out by Israel.
