Tension at Ramoji Film City as CPM Protests Land Encroachment

Hyderabad, 26 March – (www.deccanlive.com): A tense situation arose at Ramoji Film City as CPM leaders staged a protest, accusing the management of encroaching on land meant for the poor. Protesters jumped the gates and entered the premises, leading to a heated exchange between CPM leaders and the police. Several CPM members were arrested, and a woman lost consciousness during the scuffle.
The CPM had called for a “Chalo Ramoji Film City” protest, claiming that the management had taken over land allotted to the poor. Although Ramoji Film City management had previously given a written assurance to provide alternative land, the issue remains unresolved for over a year.
Earlier, CPM had staged a protest in front of the Collectorate along with the affected residents. Despite three rounds of discussions with the management, no solution was reached, prompting the party to intensify its protest. CPM leaders warned that they would lay siege to the film city if their demands for housing land were not met.
