Muslims Strongly Protest in Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad After Waqf Bill Passes in Parliament (Video)

New Dehli, 4 April (www.deccanlive.com): After the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, strong protests broke out in Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, by some Muslim organizations. Hundreds of people came onto the streets with banners and placards, shouting slogans against the bill.

Police detained several protestors, including leaders of the AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) party.

The protest took place after Friday prayers at the famous Sidi Saiyyed Jali Mosque in Ahmedabad. Protesters held placards not only against the Waqf Bill but also against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). After Uttarakhand, the Gujarat government has also formed a committee to implement the UCC.

As the protest grew louder, a large number of police officers arrived at the spot and tried to move the protestors off the road. There was pushing and shoving between protestors and police for quite some time. Some protestors even lay down on the road. Eventually, the police detained many of them, including the AIMIM Gujarat State President, and took them to the police station in buses.

One of the protestors said, “Muslims have been treated unfairly. This is oppression. We will send this message to all of India and the world that a big conspiracy is being planned against Muslims.”

The protestors raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the central government. They demanded that both the Waqf Bill and the UCC be withdrawn.
