Shops in Hyderabad to Remain Open Till Late Night During Ramzan: Government Approves

Hyderabad, 19 February – (www.deccanlive.com): The Telangana government has approved extended hours for shops, markets, and food outlets in Hyderabad during Ramzan 2025 to accommodate the needs of people and ensure they can fully enjoy the festivities of Eid.
A key review meeting was held on February 19, chaired by Telangana BC Welfare Minister and Hyderabad in-charge Ponnam Prabhakar. The meeting focused on finalizing arrangements and facilities for the holy month of Ramzan. It was attended by members of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), GHMC officers, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS & SB), the Waqf Board, and Telangana Police representatives.
Key decisions made during the meeting include:
Extended Hours for Shops and Markets:
Shops and markets, particularly in the Old City areas, will be allowed to stay open late to meet the shopping needs of Ramzan customers. This is aimed at providing convenience for the local community during the holy month.
Improved Facilities:
Priority will be given to providing uninterrupted electricity supply, clean water, and waste disposal services near mosques and commercial centers.
Security Measures:
The police department will ensure safety and security during late-night hours to maintain public order.
Government’s Commitment to Fairness and Convenience:
The government emphasized equal access to services for all communities in Hyderabad and Telangana. Shabbir Ali, the Advisor for Minority Affairs, emphasized the need for a government order (GO) to facilitate better functioning of shops and businesses during Ramzan.

The famous Macca Masjid and Shahi Masjid will undergo renovations, including new carpets, and CCTV monitoring will be reviewed for enhanced security.
Community Services:
Local mosques and NGOs will organize free Iftar meals and charity campaigns to support those in need.

Additional personnel will be deployed in busy areas like Charminar and Laad Bazaar to manage the increased crowds during Ramzan.
Ramzan Markets: A Cultural Hub:
Hyderabad’s Old City turns into a vibrant shopping center during Ramzan nights, offering a variety of items including:
- Traditional foods like Haleem, Kebabs, and Sheer Khorma.
- Eid shopping for clothing, jewelry, and home décor.
- Late-night eateries, including restaurants and street stalls offering food until early morning.

Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized, “Our goal is to ensure that all communities can observe Ramzan with dignity and respect. The extended hours reflect our commitment to supporting worshippers and local businesses.” AIMIM legislators also praised the government’s efforts to address the administrative issues raised during the meeting.
Ramzan 2025 Dates and Timings:
Ramzan is expected to begin on March 1, 2025, depending on moon sighting, and will conclude on March 29, 2025, with Eid-ul-Fitr. The timing for Sehr (pre-dawn meal) and Iftar (meal after sunset) will slightly vary, with Iftar expected to be around 6:20 PM in early March.
